Chase DeHart interview
So I’ve talked to Chase the other day and since he’s such a cool dude he said he was willing to do an interview for Onlysteeze blog! You all know him for his unique style and riding but here’s something about him you probably don’t know about. Enjoy the interview!
Filip
>So the basics: Your name, age, hometown?
Chase DeHart. 25 years old. Thorofare, New Jersey.
>How long have you been riding for?
I think around 8 years? maybe 9.
>Your sponsors?
Cult bikes, Lotek shoes, Twobyfour store, Fox clothing

>How did you start riding bmx?
I some what have always had a bike when I was younger, but I was more into skating and did that for the longest time, but my friends who I skated with all rode bmx, so I would hop on their bikes and mess around sometimes and I wanted to build a bike, they gave me all their old parts and built me up a bike, I remember me and my buddy feebleing this low ass yellow ledge by my house, like fuck yea this is way easier then skating haha.
>You’re one of the most popular riders in bmx scene right now, is it weird being on the internet where people talk about you and your style of riding all the time?
Thanks alot for that man, it definitely gets hard to read about yourself, the good things are easy haha, but the bad things can be hard to read and stick a little bit, but I’m used to it by now, I just take the good and the bad and be thankful I’m even talked about, I try to be real thankful to all the kids who have good things to say, that stuff means alot and gives me hope that bmx isn’t completely bitter, people can be rough on you haha.
>There are some pictures and clips of you riding skate, you’re pretty good! What’s the story behind that?
Haha yea man, I’m not as good as I used to be but I can still be comfortable on a board and do some of what I used to do. I seriously skated for so many years, just as many as I have rode a bike really, I loved skating and still do, I skated my town everyday and philly every weekend with my brother since I was like 11, he would just take me out to love with him and his friends, they would just roll blunts and drink 40′s right at love and skate all day long, I remember seeing guys like Stevie Williams, Brian Wenning, Josh Kalis, Sergie Trenowski, Ricky Oyola, they would all be at love doing the same thing, so growing up that’s what I looked up to, and it definitely shows now that I’m older and can look back on it, just a product of that era it seems like any more.
>You also started riding dirt bikes? How’s it going with that?
Oh it’s cool, I have always liked dirtbikes and had one growing up, and quads, go karts, anything with a motor on it really is so much fun and I have to have it haha, but I haven’t ridden my dirtbike in a few months, I just got burnt out on it last summer, I’m just fully focused on riding, I haven’t been on this much of a riding kick in a long time, this weather has me excited to ride all day every day right now.

>I see that you love tailwhips, a lot! I assume they are one of your favourite tricks haha, any other trick you love to do all the time?
Yea man, tailwhips just feel good, I’m not very cordinated with my hands, I’m real good with my feet from skateboarding or whatever reason why, but tailwhips just feel sick, they are like the 360 flip of skateboarding, everyone in skateboarding can 360 flip, but only a few have that perfect one, I think that’s what I like about tailwhips, it’s not really all that perfected by everyone that can do them, so I still have alot of fun always doing them and trying to have that perfect one. Other tricks I like to do all the time? All my tricks haha, I only have like 2 real tricks, which is bars and whips, the rest is just grinds and 180′s and 360′s, I’ve learned all the tricks I want to learn really, so I just have fun combining them or finding the right set-up for those simple tricks to not look so simple.
>Since few days ago you’re no longer in Shadow team, we know that there is no bad blood between you and them, but tell us what are your plans now? You plan to focus your energy on Cult and other sponsors? I know Cult has a pretty awesome team, but I suppose they are more like a family to you and not just a company that gives you parts.
Yea I just have always never gave much energy to Shadow, at the time when it came about everything seemed to fall into place, but shortly after I just knew I wasn’t going to last and that I was heading my own way, I’m just growing up, and I’m not trying to waste any time being somewhere where I don’t feel like I fully fit in and can give my all to it, it’s only fair to the people at Shadow and myself to admit to that and step down. I tryed recently to work a little harder for it to feel right again, but it just wasn’t working out really. If a new sponsor that feels like it falls into place comes along, that would be great, if nothing seems to fall into place, I’ll just be doing what I have been doing which is working my hardest for Cult, Lotek and Fox. Cult is with out a doubt like a family, that is very cliche for companies to say, but I know a few companies out there who truly stick by that, and cult is one of them. They are straight up like my brothers, Hawk, that’s like my little brother, I’m home with those guys, I don’t have any doubts when I’m with those guys, Robbie is there for us for everything, we push for eachother always, we want everyone to be in the greatest possition they can be in, we talk eachother up like family, it’s real, I love it.
>Favourite people to ride with, and what riders influenced you while growing up?
I love riding with everyone, ask anyone who rides with me, there is only a few nerdy ass kids who can ruin a session for me, and that’s just them being to eager or too cool or too serious about what they are doing. Other then that I love to ride with my friends and new people every chance I can. Influences growing up? Garrett Byrnes is my biggest, along with Mike Aitken, they just looked right on a bike, I was always influenced by style and people who looked right on their bike, and I don’t mean style like legs bent in and little kick outs, like Butcher, some might say he doesn’t have style, I say that dudes got sick ass style, something just looks right, Edwin Delarosa, something just looks right, looks easy and fun, I’m influenced by anyone who can bring that, or who is having fun and just doing them.
>No matter how good person you are and no matter what you do there will always be haters. Anything to say about them?
Nah I don’t have much to say to them, they see me, there is a reason why I’m not seeing them, hate all they want, I’ll be here for a while.

>Are you filming for any video in particular right now?
Yea, just finished up filming for Cult, no one even knows we were really filming, so it’s kind of about to creep up, which is good, we want them to see what we have been up to, but we don’t want to over hype ourselves, but I mean we did good, we made something solid that we are proud of with little to no time, so hopefully everyone will be psyched when they see it.
>Describe us your typical day when you’re not on some trip with sponsors?
I wake up, I let my dogs out and feed them, run around with them for a bit, sit around and watch a skate or bike video with some dutches, then go and ride for the day, or sit at a spot with my friends and bullshit for the day, then come home and do something with my girl, cupcake for a little bit, get some food, that’s really it almost every day I run it like that haha.
>Anything Chase D. signature coming up?
Yea, my signature Cult grip has just finished up and should be out shortly, new line of shoes from Lotek that literally just came out this week, I think that’s all for what’s coming up, but some more stuff is in the plans.
>Will Cult team ever come to Europe?
Fuck yea we will, we are working on making that happen, we have alot of great distros who are willing to help out and work with us getting out there for some trips with them, so things will be poppin up, we’re only just starting, but we are about to be doing alot and keeping this momentum going.
>Thanks for the interview man, any shout outs or thanks?
No problem buddy, just to my family and friends, Cult, Lotek, Fox, Twobyfour and everyone who has helped me out, typical ass thanks right there but it is what it is man.
